The importance of hydrating the skin

Hi Beauties,

We are back again with a topic we were inspired to speak on this week! Skin Hydration!

Now we don’t know about you but when we used to hear this, we weren’t sure  exactly what that looked like. Is it just making sure you cleanse/wash your face daily? Seemed easy enough! How wrong we were!

There’s so much more to this and so many advantages of prioritising skin hydration in your skin care regimen. But don’t worry – we share all our secrets here!

So why is skin hydration so important?

Skin hydration is all about water! If your skin is not hydrated enough, it will become dry and tight. Dry skin is less resilient and is less capable of keeping the harmful stuff out which can bring on other things such as dark circles, itchiness, peeling etc. It also opens the door to more fine lines and wrinkles!

When your skin is hydrated, it looks healthy, soft, radiant.

If you have oily skin, this does not mean that your skin is hydrated though! In fact, extremely oily skin can also be your skin overcompensating for a lack of hydration.

So how can I ensure my skin is hydrated?

Drink Up! - An obvious but nevertheless true tip is to drink lots of water! Make sure you’re consuming enough water from your food and your drinks. The NHS recommends 6-8 glasses per day, to be increased when it’s hot!

Use hydrating skincare products! – Look out for items with ingredients such as Glycerin, Hyaluronic Acid, Snail Mucin which are great for keeping the skin hydrated! In our shop, we currently have the Benton Snail Bee Essence which contains Snail Mucin and is an absolute favourite of ours! Face masks/sheets are also usually packed with hydrating ingredients and a great way to give your skin that extra bit of hydration in one go!

Seal it in – Despite popular opinion, moisturiser does not moisturise. Moisturiser is used to LOCK IN the moisture. So, don’t skip this step! For added moisture, use a face oil after your moisturiser to seal it in.

And voila! You now have lovely hydrated skin!

We hope those tips were helpful!

Till next time beauties.
